At PNL, workplace safety is the foundation of our culture. PNL has developed a comprehensive safety program with written procedures. Every new employee goes through training on PNL's program as well as MSHA and OHSA safety training as part of their new hire process, prior to going out to any job site. From fall hazards to confined spaces, we make sure all PNL employees understand and can identify hazards in any work environment because working safe requires the knowledge and engagement of all personnel.
PNL subscribes to the following nationally recognized safety programs:
Each employee is accountable to themselves and to those around them to be actively responsible for a safe environment, whether they are a project manager, supervisor, laborer, or technician. Our projects and jobs don't always take place in isolated locations, so not only does PNL stress individual employee safety but we train our workers to be aware of and take responsibility for the safety of the crafts and the public around us. At PNL we stress to our employees that if they see something that concerns them or feel something doesn't meet our standards then speak up. We are all responsible for safety. Only by awareness, cooperation, and due diligence can we achieve zero incidents.
Our technicians complete a Job Safety Analysis worksheets (JSA) for every job they perform. PNL's NDE technicians are committed to working side by side with contractors and general contractors while on-site to maintain a safe environment. Our employees understand that collaborating with the crafts around us is a critical component to working safely. For instance, oftentimes we have to coordinate with on-site personnel to erect temporary barricades and restricted access areas in order to perform our tasks safely and keep the crafts around us safe. PNL's dedication to safety helps ensure that all of our employees are comfortable with this collaborative process and are skilled at notifying and explaining issues to surrounding crafts and on-site contacts to ensure a smooth and, most importantly, safe operation.
PNL's technicians also have experience working with our Client's tools such as Job Hazard Analysis worksheets (JHA) and tailgate safety meetings to assess and address safety issues and meet site specific safety requirements. The use of all of these tools help us prevent any incidents before they occur.
PNL supports all of our employees in continued education on safety. Our NDE technicians go through additional Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) new miner training (24 hr) and annual refresher training (8 hr). Our leaders and technicians also complete 10 or 30 hr online OHSA training. Additional training and refreshers are provided throughout the year to help keep our employees engaged, up to date on the latest resources, and active participants in workplace safety.
When we all work together, we all go home safe.
